SpanishSense Changes

October 19th, 2007 · 11:02 am @ admin  -  15 Comments

As regular listeners will already know, SpanishSense has recently gone to a 3-a-week lesson publication schedule. It’s time to reveal why…

SpanishSense has been running for 6 months now, and it’s been a real learning experience for us to grapple with a new language. We’ve worked hard, creating new tools to teach verb conjugations, and new premium exercises tailored to Spanish, but to be honest we still don’t think the site is hitting the standards to which we aspire. Therefore, we are slowing down the production of lessons while we make some changes.

One of these is the addition of two new hosts to the team – JP Villanueva (from Seattle), and Liliana Mata (from Mexico City). Right now, they are busy behind the scenes preparing a fresh approach to the lessons. You’ll be able to hear their first shows in early November.

Also, we are preparing a cultural show for SpanishSense, and adding the Extras section that is so popular on ChinesePod.

There are other changes in the works too, which I will announce nearer the time, but in the meantime, I’d like to thank you for your patience. SpanishSense will be back up to full speed with new lessons in a couple of weeks, and I’m sure JP and Liliana will be really looking forward to hearing your feedback…

    Ken,
You made a great choice! JP and Liliana are like a big dose of fresh air and sunshine. I am expecting great things from them. Congratulations to you, Juan Patricio and Liliana, and the whole Praxis team. I think we are now on a roll :)

    Hi Bob,
I hope you’re right! I certainly feel we are on a roll. I’ve been listening to some of the new shows that we are preparing for release, and they sound good.

    Hi Steve,
I am so glad that you are not upset with me for calling you Ken in my comment above. Just think of it as a compliment :)

I just KNOW I am right about JP and Liliana. I just can’t wait until they get up to speed. I am willing to bet that Praxis has another big hit in the making!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, folks! Since I’m the new guy here, it still feels a little seat-of-your-pants, but I’m having a lot of fun, and I’m really excited about what lies before us. Pa’delante!

    Jeremy,

You may be thinking of http://www.Japanesepod101.com? They’re not affiliated with CPod, but they are doing the good work out there, along with their new offshoot http://www.koreanclass101.com

I’m not aware that Ken and Co have decided to go after Japanese… I had thought their next challenge was going to be German… ;)

Yup Jimmy if you click the link to Japanesepod.com it looks like a Praxis site. Which imo, would be great!

Is Spanishsense on a temporary hiatus? While the new lessons are developed?

Great site! I am in Chinese now and my professor queued up a lesson here. I am hooked!

    Hi Joey,
You’re right – SpanishSense lessons are paused while we develop the new lessons. You should be able to hear the new shows very soon…

    Awesome thanks :)

If you ever decide to do a Japanese site you should call it JapaneseSensei :D

Well I’ll be gol-danged, Jeremy. You’re right! It DOES look very Praxis-ey. (Esp when you click on Forum and get the “praxis language” giveaway)

Last year, I think JapanesePod was being squatted on by a para-site, which is part of why they (Peter and co) added the “101″ at the end of the name.

Perhaps an acquisition? A consolidation? I mean, the current 101 has so much content already, it’d be hard for a “from scratch” site to get competitive, I think… But you never know!

Where can I get this publication ?

Why start another japanesepod type of site when there is japanesepod101? I don’t really see any point.. especially since they have a huge amount of content.. Are you really going to start from scratch with new japanese lessons, praxis language style?

Heh, I think they are doing that to reserve domains for the future and to host their other language forums. Not a bad idea since domains are so cheap.

Not like Japanesepod is a big secret. There is a link to it in the sidebar.
